DOES THE THIRSTY PONY MOBILE BAR BUY AND SELL ALCOHOL?

No, California is a dry hire state for mobile bars and bartending services. All alcohol must be purchased by the host. You are paying for the service and for the experience.

DOES THE THIRSTY PONY MOBILE BAR REQUIRE ELECTRICITY?

Yes, we do need close access (100 feet or less) to an outlet to plug into, a standard 110/120 V receptacle. If an outlet is not available we do have a generator and we do not charge a rental fee if we have to use it, it's rather quiet but an outlet is the first choice as the generator noise might be a nuisance to some. We have lights and refrigeration units that require electricity as well as heaters in the winter and fans in the summer months. It's a tin box, it gets HOT in there and it gets COLD in there.

WHAT ARE THE PARKING REQUIREMENTS FOR THE THIRSTY PONY MOBILE BAR?

Our trailer is not very big, it's about 8 ft long and about 5 feet wide and that's with the wheel wells. That's why I call it the Pony trailer, not even sure how they fit standard size horses in when it was used for that. However, it does need to be towed in by our vehicle so we would need enough room for the tow vehicle to pull in and drop it off and pick it up after the event.

HOW FAR WILL THE THIRSTY PONY MOBILE BAR TRAVEL AND WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

We are located in Napa Valley, CA but will travel. The first 30 miles each way are included in the service package. Anything over 30 miles each way will be charged at $2 mile. If an overnight stay is required, accommodations will be included in final bill.

DOES THE HOST ALSO HAVE TO PURCHASE ALL THE MIXERS, WATER, GARNISHMENTS, SODAS, CUPS, STRAWS, NAPKINS?

No, this is all included in the bartending service.

HOW SOON SHOULD WE BOOK THE THIRSTY PONY MOBILE BAR?

My answer would be sooner than later, so as soon as possible. Our events are booked on a first-come, first-serve basis. First step is to use the "contact us" section of this website and we can get the ball rolling. A 50% non-refundable deposit will lock in your event date.

WHAT ARE YOUR POLICIES ON CHECKING IDS? DO YOU EVER CUT PEOPLE OFF?

We do check ID for anyone who looks under 30. We do understand not everyone may have their ID on them at a private event but if they get checked and no ID, we won't serve them.

Yes, we will cut off service to someone if they appear to be intoxicated. It's not something we like to do, but it's necessary at times. Your safety, our safety, the guests safety and the general publics safety comes before anything else.

WHAT KIND OF EVENTS DO YOU SERVE ?

Whatever you are celebrating, we can be there. Holiday parties, weddings, rehearsal dinners, birthdays, graduations, even backyard BBQ's and parties. As long as the event is on private property and not on public streets.

WHERE DO WE BUY THE ALCOHOL?

Since we are not licensed to sell alcohol, you can purchase it wherever you like—local liquor stores, wineries, or even big-box stores like Costco. To make it easier, we offer an event calculator that generates a shopping list based on your menu choices and number of guests. This way, you save money, and any leftover alcohol is yours to keep.

Due to state laws, The Thirsty Pony cannot transport alcohol, so you are responsible for bringing it to the venue on the day of your event.

IS THE THIRSTY PONY MOBILE BAR INSURED?

Absolutely! We have general liability as well as liquor liability, we're usually a two person show and everyone is RBS certified through CA ABC. Please note that all General Liability and Liquor Liability insurance do not allow for service past 2 am, self serve liquor service, drinking games and shot service.

WHAT ABOUT ICE TO KEEP DRINKS COLD, DO WE HAVE TO BUY AND BRING ICE?

Ice is part of the service we provide. We calculate how much we will need and we buy the ice and bring the coolers to keep it cold. One more thing you don't have to worry about!

DOES THE THIRSTY PONY MOBILE BAR ONLY OFFER ALCOHOL SERVICE?

Of course not! In addition to beer, wine, and cocktail service, we can create some pretty awesome mocktails for those hosting alcohol-free events or anyone who wants a non-alcoholic option at their event.

WHAT TYPE OF GLASSWARE AND STRAWS DO YOU USE?

We use high-end tossable glassware in 9oz and 12oz sizes. They have a beautiful shape and are made from plant-based, organic materials such as corn starch or sugar cane. All of our glassware is 100% BPI-Certified Compostable.

Our straws—both short and tall—are also plant-based, made from upcycled agave fibers. Unlike paper straws, they keep their shape and don’t fall apart. Even our cocktail garnishment picks are all-natural, crafted from bamboo.

DO YOU HANDLE TRASH?

No, space inside the trailer is very limited. The interior measures approximately 4 feet by 6 feet, and it is quite compact.

We do provide a trash can next to the bar for cups and light bar-related waste; however, the host is responsible for final disposal of all garbage. During the event, we will do our best to keep trash organized and out of sight, typically stored behind the trailer.

Please note that bar service generates more than just cup waste. This may include wine bottles, empty cases, and beer bottles (if bottled beer is served). Adequate space for trash and recycling is appreciated to help keep the bar area clean and presentable throughout the event.
